If you have been released from physical Therapy and have been told to finish your rehab on your own, or if your dealing with arthritis or ongoing issues, our rehab course will help you safely overcome pain and rebuild your strength.
This program requires a minimum of 5-10 private sessions with a PowerSource trainer to create an individualized program. See our three success stories below and additionial info in the "Center for Strength and Healing."
Carolyn, age 52, is the life partner of Wayne and mother of one daughter age 24.
She is a cardiac nurse. Carolyn was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2012 and had two complex, major surgeries to remove the cancer. She lost ¾ of her blood supply and got extreme anemia.
In March of 2012, she came back to us to try to rehab – still bent over in pain and hardly able to lift her purse.
Now, in October, Carolyn has regained the muscle she lost. She can bench press 45lbs and do squats with 30lbs. She is back to work and back to riding her beloved Victory motorcycle.
Wayne, age 58, is Carolyn’s partner, an industrial contractor.
Five months prior to coming to PowerSource, he was hit while riding his motorcycle by another motorcycle. Wayne suffered compound breaks to his femur, a crushed foot, and lost two quarts of blood, causing him to get anemia.
Wayne came in to rehab his injuries in March at the same time Carolyn came in.
Now, in October, Wayne is able to be back at work, which involves climbing ladders up to rooftops and lifting 30-70lb tanks.
His average job involves lifting a total of 200lbs to get his building materials to the roof top machines.
Roger, age 70, is the owner of Commercial Property, and is married with five children and four grandchildren. Roger discovered he had cancer in December of 2010 and came to PowerSource to train before cancer surgery. He wanted to be his strongest going into surgery. He had surgery in March of 2011.
Roger came back right after surgery to rebuild his strength and muscle and to keep his immune system strong. Roger has gone from a 34 size waist to a 32 waist and has gotten his old gymnastics body back.
Roger says he loves the tightness he feels in his body from training. He keeps setting new goals for bench press and squats and exceeding each time.
Roger – you are a champion!
Dick “Coach Grampy,” age 74, is the owner of Integrate Wealth Management, a former University of Minnesota football coach, and father of three and grandfather of six.
Dick came to PowerSource in 2005 to train because knee surgeries and arthritis did not allow him to run anymore.
Dick is always looking to set new goals for his personal best. At 74 he is not only rock hard and buff, but he has rock hard abs, weighs less than when he started, can bench 235 lbs., does 200 crunches per day, and leg presses 800 lbs.
His advice to us is that we should all continue to set new goals in life.
Brad Stone, an investment manager, 47, is married and the father of two boys, ages 17 and 15. In 2001 and 2002, Brad underwent two back surgeries for ruptured discs. Since his second back surgery, he had felt very vulernable to injury and was apprehensive about hurting his back again.
He came to PowerSource in January of 2005, with the goal of working with a trainer and having guidence in building strength around his injured area in the back and generally getting stronger.
Brad began training with Tom, being very cautious and doing very light weights. Now he has virtually no back pain compared to when he started and he feels a lot stronger and more confident.
His bench press has gone up from 65lbs. to 195lbs., and his sumo deadlift went form 30lbs. to 110lbs.
Brad says that his training has increased his enjoyment of life. He's so happy about the training that he sent his wife, Claudia, in to workout with us.
We, as trainers, are proud of Brad because not only has he built a lot of strength, he looks marvelous!
Judy, age 62, married and mother of two, is the current President of the Downtown Minneapolis Rotary Foundation.
Judy came to PowerSource to get physically stronger. Five months into her training, she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Judy continued to train right through surgery through her back and five months of chemo. She is now cancer free and still training!
Judy feels her training helped her recover faster and keep strong.
Judy’s tip: No matter what challenge you face in life, maintain your health and laugh a lot!
Judy Beyers, owner of PowerSource Personal Training, announces the opening of a new division of PowerSource Personal Training - THE CENTER FOR STRENGTH AND HEALING. The Center for Strength and Healing goes beyond the general strength, conditioning, and body shaping of personal training to help develop specific healing plans for individuals with special needs.
The Center for Strength and Healing offers five to ten week programs developed by Judy Beyers, founder and owner of PowerSource Personal Training, for individuals of any age who are suffering a physical set-back in life that is causing them to feel restricted by pain, weakness, fatigue, loss of balance, stubborn weight gain, or depression.
The whole purpose of the Center for Strength and Healing is to pull together a plan for individuals dealing with severe setbacks such as:
I created these five to ten week courses consisting of coaching strategy and goal setting with me and workout sessions with my training team, plus referrals if needed to the right medical professionals needed. I want to share what I discovered through my own training; that we are not victims of aging, heredity, or physical setbacks such as illness or injury. Our bodies will heal, reshape, and get strong if we choose to, on a daily basis, treat them well.
I turned 61 years old in April. I've trained through an open heart surgery, broken foot, and a torn rotator cuff and I feel stronger than ever. In our success stories section you will see the stories of other people who are overcoming muscle weakness due to childhood polio, fatigue due to breast cancer surgery, radiation and chemo, balance problems, and weakness due to lupus and multiple surgeries. They have all chosen not to be victims but to train back into strength. They have gotten rid of canes and walkers used for years, started driving again after five years, lost weight and generally gotten back to normal.
The Center for Strength and Healing courses offered by PowerSource are five to ten weeks in length and are individually designed. They begin with:
1. A free consultation and planning session with Judy Beyers, owner of PowerSource, who will design your program.
2. Five to ten strength building sessions with the designated personal trainer on staff to design a home or gym training program that can be done at home or with the trainer.
3. Nutritional guidelines designed to help the individual rebuild muscle, decrease body fat, rev up the metabolism, reduce the toxins in your body and balance your insulin levels.
4. Referral to the appropriate medical professionals if special needs need to be addressed (see our list of advisors and providers).
SIMPLE STRENGTH - an at home program for rebuilding your physical strength, stamina, mobility and energy, and balance at any age. Consists of three basic whole body moves using only your body weight or some simple hand weights to be done three times a week. A simple clean eating, energy producing training diet is included.
FIX WHAT'S BROKEN a very specific course developed for individuals who still have pain or balance and mobility problems months and years after a hip or knee replacement, from injuries involving an auto accident, or childhood disease such as polio. We develop a special exercise program to rebuild atrophied muscles, build strength around weakened joints, and improve balance and mobility. The nutrition program is designed to increase muscle, tone, and metabolism.
FIRE ME UP this course is designed to help the client beat depression or fatigue, and to build the physical and emotional strength to move forward in life and see the bright possibilities. This is a great course for anyone living with chronic pain or an auto immune disease.
BEATING EATING DISORDERS a course designed to help the individual have a healthy relationship with food and exercise and to build a strong, toned, and healthy body.
GETTING YOUR SEXY BACK this courses is designed to help you get your original strong and sexy body back. Muscle has memory and you can still have your young body back if you feed it and train it right.
In this portion of our life life on earth we must travel in our bodies. The quality of our life and the ease with which we live our lives is dependent on the strength and health of our body.
We need to be athletes in life to constantly feed ourselves and train ourselves to be as strong as we can be. No one can give us a pill or perform an operation that will magically make us fit and strong we must choose to care for ourselves and train hard to reverse the aging process!
There are three keys to making it happen or achieving that goal, people that make it happen:
Simple strength training with barbells and dumbbells, and mental focus can improve your balance, triple your strength, and rehab injured areas in weeks at any age. Only two or three workouts a week with weights combined with clean eating can have a profound impact on your health, not to mention your physique. A good looking body just goes with the strength training.
After 20 years of helping hundreds of people achieve their physical goals, I have found that it takes the body five weeks to three months of training and good nutrition to achieve a structural change. Usually by the fifth week on the program, people are down 5 to 8 pounds and a size and one half or are seeing the first visible changes. By three months, you can be down two to three sizes or have gained a very toned physique.
Seventy to eighty percent of being successful in toning and strengthening is a result of consistently eating healthy foods and keeping track of quantity. If a person only works out but does not change bad eating habits, they won't get the visible changes they train so hard for.
The goal of this Simple Strength program is to help you:
Let us make you winners! Train with a teammate! Gain a competitive edge!
